Piece: Head Over Heels
Author: Grady Kestler, Anne Gehmann, Steven Leffue Production: IDEAS Festival 2016 Director: Grady Kestler Venue: CALit2 Theater Date: April, 2016 Head Over Heels was a collaboration begun by designer Grady Kestler and choreographer Anne Gehmann for the IDEAS Festival 2016. They had the idea of using an armband gesture controller to make movement interactive with a large video wall at Qualcomm Center's CALit2. I brought the idea of adding sound to this mix making the piece an interactive quartet between dancer, musician, sound (see Aiis), and video (Mugic Viewer developed by Kestler).
This structure provided a feedback circuit between all performers and set up a conflict between the digitally mediated and the organic. It also showed the flexibility of our recently designed interactive electronic performance system Aiis; we could connect any manner of control to sound events and we could drive any type of lighting instrument, video component, or other sonic event with its output. |
